Ringing Center

The Lithuanian Bird Ringing Center is a structural division of the Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum in Kaunas, which:

  • organizes, coordinates, and carries out bird ringing in Lithuania within its field of competence;

  • organizes the production or ordering of rings or other bird marking tools and distributes them to ringers in the country;

  • prepares bird ringing and marking methodologies and instructions and introduces them to bird ringers;

  • determines the scope of collected data about ringed birds, measurement methods, and the procedures and deadlines for submitting reports to the ringing center;

  • collects, systematizes, summarizes, stores, provides, and publishes information about ringed birds, as well as birds with rings that are found or observed;

  • prepares annual bird ringing summaries and reports;

  • provides consultations to bird ringers on all matters related to bird ringing;

  • exchanges information with corresponding organizations and specialists in foreign countries.

The Lithuanian Bird Ringing Center is a full member of the European Union for Bird Ringing (EURING).

Since September 1978, the head of the Lithuanian Bird Ringing Center has been Ričardas Patapavičius.
